Black Maple Magazine Honoured in the 28th Annual Webby Awards and 3rd Annual Anthem Awards

While serving our community is great, awards aren’t bad either! So, we’re thrilled to announce that Black Maple Magazine has been honoured with not one, but two, awards this season for our ground-breaking website. We’ve been named as an honouree for General Desktop and Mobile Sites – Magazines for Desktops and Mobile Sites in the 28th Annual Webby Awards. This announcement comes on the heels of another recent honour: being named Anthem Awards Silver medal winner in the Awareness and Media Categories: News and Journalism for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.

So, what are The Webbys? Just the “Internet’s highest honor,” according to The New York Times. As Claire Graves, President of The Webby Awards pointed out, “It is an incredible achievement to be selected among the best from the 13,000 projects we reviewed this year.” She went on to say, “honorees like Black Maple Magazine are setting the standard for innovation and creativity on the Internet.”

In its 3rd year, the Annual Anthem Awards is presented by The Webby Awards but has quickly become a coveted honour for online media. The Anthem Awards celebrate social impact by showcasing the purpose- and mission-driven work of people, companies, and organizations worldwide, so we are in great company as the winner of a silver Anthem Award! “A platform like Black Maple Magazine is long overdue. We have needed dedicated Black Canadian media for decades,” said Charmaine A. Nelson founder and editor-in-chief of Black Maple Magazine. “We’re thrilled to receive this international recognition from both The Webby Awards and The Anthem Awards. It is a powerful endorsement of our vital contributions to the media landscape.”

With two awards in just over a year since our launch in December 2022, we’re excited to continue our essential work that embraces, challenges, and celebrates the beautiful diversity of Black Canada. Stay tuned, the best is yet to come!
