The Roast of Kevin Hart
A sign of immense love in the comedy world isn’t friends and family gathering round to tell you how great you are. It’s those very same people getting together to tell you about your mama, your punk ass, and every mistake and public embarrassment that you were ever unfortunate enough to commit. Yes, friends it’s Netflix roast time again and next up is the great Kevin Hart. If you haven’t noticed, Hart transitioned from comedian to A-List actor, to straight mogul status a while ago.
This man who has been in global mega-hits like the Think Like a Man (2012, 2014) and Jumanji franchises (2017, 2019, 2026), has also showcased his stellar dramatic chops in films like The Upside (2017) alongside Bryan Cranston and the Netflix drama series True Story (2021) alongside Wesley Snipes. But perhaps Hart’s most indelible imprint will be left in the world of business where his entrepreneurial world making and investments range from his entertainment company Hartbeat to his tequila brand Gran Coramino, to his VitaHustle wellness and supplement line. Yes friends, Kevin Hart is an elite businessman. And this list does not even include all the outcomes of his massive deal with Netflix which includes his own stand-up specials and other productions.
So, a man of Harts’ mogul qualifications drew a who’s who of stars who tore him down a peg or two, but all in a playfully vicious, no-holds-barred-dirty-joke-fun-paradise kind of way. If you don’t like a heaping daub of smut with your comedy, move it along! This one ain’t for you.
For those of you who saw Netflix’s The Roast of Tom Brady in 2024, you know what to expect. Nothing, and we mean nothing is off limits, for the star being roasted – in this case Hart – or for his friends doing the roasting. The jokes included weight, infidelity, over exposure, greed, and even suicide and cancer.
While Tim Brady got mercilessly ribbed back in 2024 about ex-wife Gisele Bündchen’s alleged affair with her martial arts instructor, Hart’s friends went after him for his own confirmed affair when he stepped out on his gorgeous wife Eniko in 2017. A surprise guest and Hart co-star Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, went even further, flexing his gorgeous, defined, muscular pecs from his unbuttoned shirt, and looking down at a smiling Eniko in the audience to insinuate that he was going to hook up with her after the show.
Other breakout moments were Usher who serenaded Hart with smooth R&B insults and Lizzo who sang and played her flute as she denigrated Hart’s size, an ongoing theme. But the standout insult artists of the evening were the women. Cheryl Underwood proved that her thirteen-year daytime jig on CBS’s The Talk had been a hindrance to her comedic brilliance taking down all the men who came to the stage before her to insult her hair, looks, complexion, and even the death of her husband. Chelsea Handler bit back hard too. After sitting through countless slut, old, and black-male fixation jokes she dropped a bomb on the stage, shaming several male comedians who had taken huge paydays to play shows in Saudi Arabia. Actress Regina Hall who starred in the Think Like a Man franchise alongside Hart, was also a revelation. Taking to the stage, she pretended to be channeling Hart’s dead mother who revealed all kinds of inappropriate details about Hart and her own sex life!
To his credit, Hart genuinely laughed all the way through his friend’s jokes, then he took the mic, and tore his friends a new one (as they say). Specially, he ribbed the Rock that he needed to own his blackness and lay off the Hawaiian shit, and he disparaged the roast master himself, Jeff Ross, for his Eddie Murphy wannabe red leather ensemble.
Verdict? If your humour swings towards Eddy Murphy, Richard Pryor, and Chris Rock side of the road, this one’s right up your alley.
